Digital Transformation of Technical University Buildings

Overview

VISE Smart Building successfully implemented a comprehensive smart monitoring and Digital Twin solution for multiple buildings within the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest.

The objective was clear:

  • Gain real-time visibility into building performance
  • Improve operational efficiency
  • Support long-term sustainability goals
  • Enable data-driven facility management

This project demonstrates how educational institutions can transition from reactive maintenance to proactive, intelligent building management.

The Challenge

University buildings typically present several challenges:

  • Multiple utility systems (electricity, water, gas, thermal energy)
  • High occupancy variability
  • Aging infrastructure
  • Limited visibility into real-time consumption
  • Growing pressure for sustainability and reporting

The university required an integrated, scalable and non-invasive solution capable of centralizing operational data across buildings.

Our Solution

Multi-Parameter Monitoring Infrastructure

VISE deployed a wireless monitoring architecture capable of collecting and transmitting real-time data for:

  • Electricity, water, gas and thermal energy meters
  • Indoor air quality (CO₂, temperature, humidity)
  • Soil moisture for smart irrigation
  • Waste bin fill levels
  • Fire water tank levels
  • Equipment operational status
  • Smart radiator thermostats

The infrastructure was designed to be scalable, secure and minimally invasive to daily academic activities.

Digital Twin Integration – dTwin Platform

All collected data was integrated into dTwin – Digital Twin platform.

The platform provides:

  • Real-time dashboards
  • Historical data visualization
  • Customizable time-based analytics
  • Graphical representation of consumption trends
  • BIM-integrated building visualization

Users can easily analyze performance indicators and make informed operational decisions.

Results & Impact

The implemented system enabled:

 Full transparency of utility consumption
 Improved indoor comfort conditions
 Faster identification of inefficiencies
 Better maintenance planning
 Enhanced sustainability reporting capabilities
Scalable digital infrastructure for future expansion

This project reflects VISE’s ability to design and implement integrated Smart Campus solutions adapted to complex institutional environments.
